Isolators

Isolators in Structural Engineering

Isolators are mechanical devices designed to minimize vibrations, shocks, and noise in structures and machinery. They absorb and dissipate energy, protecting equipment and enhancing stability. Used in bridges, buildings, and industrial applications, isolators improve durability and safety by reducing stress caused by dynamic forces, seismic activity, or operational loads.

1. Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB)

Lead Rubber Bearings (LRB) are advanced seismic isolation devices designed to absorb and dissipate earthquake energy, reducing structural damage. They consist of alternating layers of rubber and steel plates with a lead core at the center. The rubber provides flexibility, allowing controlled movement, while the steel enhances vertical load capacity. The lead core dissipates energy through plastic deformation, effectively damping seismic forces. LRBs are widely used in bridges and buildings to enhance earthquake resistance, ensuring structural safety and longevity. Their ability to minimize vibrations makes them a preferred choice for critical infrastructure in high-seismic zones.

2. MSIL Sliding Isolation Pendulum(SIP)

MSIL’s Sliding Isolation Pendulum (SIP®) is a highly advanced seismic protection system designed to accommodate horizontal movements through a concave sliding plate with a precisely defined curvature radius. As the structure experiences lateral displacement, the bearing stores potential energy by rising vertically, enabling it to return to its original position after service displacement or seismic activity. The pendulum period, governed by the curvature radius, ensures an optimal response in regions with low acceleration.
The tribological pairing of MSM® and stainless-steel sheet generates controlled friction, providing essential damping to regulate or limit horizontal seismic motion. MSIL’s SIP®-V sliding isolation pendulum is specifically engineered to offer both seismic protection and effective vibration isolation, enhancing structural resilience and longevity.

3. Spring Isolators

Spring Isolators for Superior Vibration Control
Spring isolators provide exceptional isolation from micro-vibrations both horizontally and vertically, with tuning frequencies above 2.5 Hz, available with or without dampers.
Even the smallest vibrations in the micrometric range near the structure are effectively absorbed, ensuring the highest standard of vibration isolation.
